About Us
The South Asian Association of Simcoe County (SAASC) was founded with the vision of sharing the dynamic South Asian culture with the broader community of Simcoe County. As a volunteer-driven organization, our Board of Directors tirelessly works to organize cultural and social events that cater to all ages, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
Over the years, SAASC has closely collaborated with local initiatives such as the Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) and the Ethnic Mosaic Alliance (EMA) to support not only newcomers but also existing members of our community, ensuring everyone feels welcomed and valued.
Events

Diwali
Our annual Diwali Gala is a spectacular celebration of the Festival of Lights, one of the most beloved occasions in South Asian culture. Diwali symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. This event brings together hundreds from across Simcoe County for an evening filled with dazzling lights, delectable foods, cultural performances, and the warmth of community. It's a time for joy, reflection, and togetherness, celebrated with much enthusiasm by people of all ages.
Vaisakhi
Vaisakhi marks the Sikh New Year and commemorates the formation of the Khalsa panth of warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. It is also a traditional harvest festival for people in the North Indian state of Punjab. SAASC celebrates Vaisakhi with great fervor, organizing cultural programs that include traditional music, dance, and a showcase of Punjabi heritage. It's a powerful expression of community pride and historical significance, inviting everyone to partake in the festivities.
Karwa Chauth
Karwa Chauth is a day of love and marital bliss celebrated predominantly by women in Northern India. It involves a fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. SAASC honors this tradition by bringing together community members to share in the rituals and stories that define this festival. The event is an intimate gathering that fosters a sense of kinship and cultural continuity among participants.
Bollywood Movie Night
In partnership with the Ethnic Mosaic Alliance, we've previously organized a Bollywood Movie Night that was a resounding success. This innovative event offered a unique way for the community to come together and enjoy the magic of Bollywood cinema under the stars. It was an evening of laughter, music, and film that celebrated the heart and soul of South Asian culture, creating unforgettable memories for attendees of all ages.
